DAR ES SALAAM: Minister for Home Affairs, Patrobas Katambi, has urged citizens to register in the National Identification Authority (NIDA) system in order to fully benefit from various services provided through systems linked to the authority.

Katambi made the call during his first official visit to NIDA offices since assuming the position, saying that NIDA registration is a crucial tool that enables citizens to be easily identified and to access services promptly from both public and private institutions.

He said the National Identification Card facilitates access to many essential services, including healthcare, education, electricity, water, banking services, travel documents, driving and business licenses, Taxpayer Identification Numbers (TIN), private company registration, as well as services from Social Security Funds.

“NIDA removes barriers for citizens when they need basic services, thereby contributing to efficiency in the delivery of various services,” Katambi said.

On his part, the Director General of NIDA, James Kaji, said the exercise to address name-related challenges for citizens with valid reasons and supporting documents is ongoing across the country.

He said the process also includes citizens who were granted amnesty by the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, allowing their details in the NIDA system to be corrected to reflect their rightful names, instead of names that had previously appeared on falsified education certificates at various levels.

Kaji urged citizens who have not yet collected their national ID cards from district NIDA offices to do so in order to start benefiting from their use in accessing various services.
