DAR ES SALAAM: The Fair Competition Commission (FCC) has announced that it will continue the process of amending its laws to strengthen consumer protection, control counterfeit products, and ensure fair competition that drives economic growth and job creation in the country.
The statement was made by Acting Director General of FCC, Khadija Ngasongwa, during the opening of a capacity-building seminar for journalists in Dar es Salaam.
Khadija explained that the legal amendments are aimed at protecting consumers from substandard products, misleading advertisements, and practices that violate the principles of fair competition.
She added that one of FCC’s priorities is to ensure strict control of counterfeit goods entering the market, as such products negatively affect public health, reduce government revenue, and deny legitimate businesses opportunities to grow.

Our responsibility is to ensure that the economy grows based on fair competition. The result will be increased investment and employment for citizens,” said Ngasongwa.
She also noted that the FCC will meet regularly with journalists and various stakeholders to provide accurate information about the Commission’s mandate and to listen to citizens’ challenges with the aim of providing timely solutions.
Furthermore, she highlighted ongoing improvements through TANOGA — the Alliance of Government Regulatory Institutions and Customs Agencies, designed to strengthen the management of imported goods in the country.
Ms Ngasongwa added that these institutions will adopt a digital system to reduce direct interactions between officials and clients, a move that will increase transparency, reduce bureaucracy, and curb opportunities for unethical practices.
The FCC will continue to collaborate with other government institutions and the private sector to ensure that the business environment remains safe, fair, and beneficial to citizens.
