GEITA: The State Mining Corporation (STAMICO) has signed an agreement with Plantcor Mining and Plant Hire (Pty) Ltd of South Africa to implement a gold exploration and mining project in the Kigosi area, Bukombe District, Geita Region.
The signing ceremony was attended by Deputy Minister of Minerals, Dr. Steven Kiruswa, who said the project is expected to create employment opportunities for residents of Bukombe and the wider Geita Region, stimulate the local economy, and increase national revenue.
Dr. Kiruswa emphasized the importance of the company fulfilling its corporate social responsibility (CSR) obligations and ensuring the participation of local communities in the mineral sector value chain, in line with the Local Content policy.
He also stated that after the completion of the geological survey, Plantcor will provide detailed reports on areas surrounding the Kigosi project to enable other licensed miners in the area to benefit from the information and develop their operations.

Dr. Kiruswa further instructed STAMICO management to work closely with Plantcor to ensure the project is managed professionally, transparently, and in the broader national interest. He stressed that investors must honor all investment commitments, technology transfer, and comply with national laws to make the project a model for public-private partnership.
For his part, STAMICO Board Chairman, Ambassador Simon Sirro, said the signing of the agreement signals a strengthening of the investment climate in Tanzania. He noted that the partnership will be implemented according to the law, with clear protection of the interests of local communities.
Meanwhile, STAMICO CEO, Dr Venance Mwasse, said the agreement aims to strengthen strategic collaboration in gold exploration and mining, while highlighting the project’s importance in developing Tanzania’s mining sector.
