DOHA: THE Tanzanian government has launched a strategic campaign to promote tanzanite gemstones in Qatar, aiming to expand international markets, attract investment, and boost tourism.
Minister for Minerals, Anthony Mavunde announced this today during a visit to the Tanzanian Embassy in Qatar, where he met with embassy officials to discuss the initiative.

Minister Mavunde noted that the Tanzanite market has experienced a slight decline in recent years, leading to lower prices.

“The President has listened to the concerns of Tanzanite miners and traders and directed the Ministry of Minerals to restore the global prestige of this gemstone so that it benefits our nation,” he said.

He added that the Ministry is implementing the President’s directives by actively promoting tanzanite in international markets, emphasizing that the gemstone is sourced exclusively from Tanzania and is available in abundance.
The Minister highlighted that some countries are still unaware that tanzanite comes from Tanzania, which limits market potential and the country’s ability to promote tourism. He stressed that while Tanzania is rich in various gemstones, tanzanite is unique and serves as a national symbol, found nowhere else in the world, and must be promoted and protected.
To maximize the impact of the campaign, Minister Mavunde said the Ministry will coordinate closely with the Tanzanian Embassy in Qatar to reach investors and stakeholders, highlighting opportunities for investment in the country’s mineral sector.
