DAR ES SALAAM: KARIAKOO Markets Corporation General Manager Ashraph Abdukarim has held talks with the leadership of Agakhan University, which focused on establishing a childcare centre in the Kariakoo Main Market.

Mr  Abdulkarim explained to the leaders that the organisation has prepared a beautiful and large area where if an investor comes forward, he can build the center whose construction is the implementation of the instructions of President Samia Suluhu Hassan, who issued it on February 8, 2026, when she officially opened the market.

Mr Abdulkarim said what is currently underway is the preparation of drawings and detailed information on how the centre should be. These reports are being prepared by the Prime Minister’s Office-RALG after visiting the area with various experts who were accompanied by experts from the Dar es Salaam Regional Commissioner’s Office and the City of Dar es Salaam.

For his part, the Head of the delegation from the Agakhan University, Prof Paschal Ruggajo thanked the leadership of the Kariakoo Marketing Corporation for meeting with them, as they are sincerely interested in the centre by recognising the importance of health and environment for mothers and children.

In turn, Dr Mariam Nooran, the Head of the Department of Paediatrics at the Agakhan University, highlighted the importance of having a breastfeeding area and also raising children together, noting that various factors should be considered, including safety, security and an environment that provides opportunities for children to play.

It should be noted that the Kariakoo Marketing Corporation allocated a special area for mothers who do business in the Kariakoo Central Market to breastfeed their children, which has received a great response from the community.
