NAMTUMBO: THE MINISTRY of Natural Resources and Tourism through the Likuyu Sekamaganga Community Conservation Training College (CBCTC) in Namtumbo district, Ruvuma region, has provided strategic training to 92 village wildlife officers (VGS) aimed at enabling them to deal with nuisance and destructive wildlife from 19 districts in the country.

In addition, through the training, various simple, friendly and modern methods have been taught to enable the village wildlife officers to face the challenge of dealing with these wildlife but also to build their capacity to provide education to the community about the importance of protecting natural resources including animals and conservation.

Speaking at the graduation, the guest of honor, who is the Director of the Research and Training Unit, Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism, Dr Edward Kohi said the government recognizes that citizens are the main implementers of Conservation Policies in the country and that is why it has been providing strategic training to VGS as major stakeholders in protecting and conserving the country’s resources but also protecting citizens from invasive and destructive wildlife.

He said that through the strategic training they received, the soldiers will join forces with Army Soldiers from the National Parks Authority (TANAPA), Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority (NCAA), Tanzania Forest Services Agency (TFS) and Tanzania Wildlife Management Authority (TAWA) in helping to combat the challenges of invasive and destructive wildlife.

For her part, the Principal of the College, Jane Nyau said the graduates will be used as Rapid Response Teams in the 19 districts they came from in addressing the challenge of dealing with invasive and destructive wildlife and thus be of great help to the community.
