
DAR ES SALAAM: PRESIDENT Samia Suluhu Hassan has strengthened Tanzania’s partnership with the Gates Foundation to accelerate efforts aimed at improving maternal, newborn and child health in the country and across Africa.
A statement issued by the Director of Presidential Communication, Bakari Machumu said this was reached during talks held between the Head of State and the Foundation’s Director of Policy, Government Relations and Partnerships (Africa), Caty Fall Sow, where they discussed expanding collaboration in maternal and child health, immunisation, nutrition, health systems strengthening and disease prevention.
During their talks, President Samia highlighted Tanzania’s ongoing investments in health facilities, emergency maternal care, neonatal services and vaccination programmes, noting that these reforms have contributed to significant improvements in maternal and child health outcomes.

Additionally, she briefed the delegation on preparations for a continental roadmap under her AU Championship, aimed at mobilising political leadership, strengthening accountability, increasing investment and accelerating progress towards ending preventable maternal, newborn and child deaths across Africa.
For her part, Ms Sow congratulated President Samia on her appointment as the African Union Champion for Maternal, Newborn and Child Health and reaffirmed the Foundation’s commitment to supporting African-led initiatives to eliminate preventable maternal and child deaths across the continent.
Both sides reaffirmed their shared commitment to advancing sustainable, African-led solutions through stronger partnerships, innovation and increased investment to improve the health and wellbeing of women and children across the continent.
