
MWANZA: THE Tanzanian Lake Victoria city of Mwanza has been honoured to host the 21st World Lake Conference to be held at the Malaika Beach Resort from August 4 to 6, 2026, bringing together various stakeholders in the lake water sector from across the world.
The preparations for the conference have been presented today to the Mwanza Regional Commissioner, Mr Said Mtanda by the Chief Executive Officer of the Water Academy, Prof. Adam Karia, who was accompanied by a delegation of stakeholders from Japan, at a meeting held here at the Regional Commissioner’s Office.
The conference is being organized by the Water Academy in collaboration with the ILEC Foundation of Japan under the theme, “Our Lakes, Our Future: Uniting Science, Policy, Management Action, and People for a Water-Secure World.”

Speaking about the conference, Prof Karia said the conference is expected to bring together experts, researchers, policy makers, government leaders, international organizations and development stakeholders from various parts of the world to discuss issues of conservation and sustainable management of freshwater resources.
He explained that the conference will also provide a platform to integrate science, policy and implementation measures to enhance the sustainable use of water resources and ensure water security for current and future generations.
For his part, the Mwanza Regional Commissioner, Hon. Said Mtanda, said the region is fully prepared to receive guests of the conference and collaborate with the organizers to ensure it is held successfully, while promoting Mwanza and Tanzania on the international stage.
