MWANZA: KWIMBA District Council in Mwanza region has provided loans worth 517m/- to 26 groups of women, youth and people with disabilities through a 10 percent domestic revenue loan scheme, as part of the government’s efforts to empower citizens to become economically independent.
Speaking today, July 14, 2026, during a loan handover ceremony held in Kwimba district, the Community Development Officer of Kwimba District Council, Ms Rozalia Magoti said that of the funds provided, nine women’s groups received 224 m/-, ten youth groups received 257m/- and seven groups of people with disabilities received 36 m/-, with the total funds provided reaching 517m/-.
She said that 26 groups that met the criteria benefited from the loan, naming some of the groups as Vijana Maendeleo, Jipambanie, Upendo and Pamoja group.
However, She urged beneficiaries to focus on the use of funds for the projects they specified when applying for loans, noting that some youth groups have been changing the use of funds differently from the planned projects, which could affect the success of the program.
The Executive Director of Kwimba District Council, Dr Amon Mkoga, urged beneficiaries to use the funds for the intended activities so that they can increase their income and boost the economy of the family and the community.
He also urged beneficiaries to repay the loans on time so that the funds can circulate and provide opportunities for other groups to benefit from the program.
For his part, the Kwimba District Commissioner, Mr Ng’wilabuzu Ludigija, said it was important for beneficiaries to adhere to the loan conditions, especially ensuring that the funds are used for the intended purposes and returned on time.
He said that good loan repayment will enable beneficiaries to qualify for other loans of greater value to expand their economic activities.
