JAKARTA: AN Indonesian company is set to invest 500,000 US dollars in a palm oil plant in Kigoma Region that will produce soap, cooking oil and other oil-based products, with machinery expected to arrive in Tanzania in September this year.

The investment by Indonesian based company, PT Indo Sultan Jaya marks another step in strengthening Tanzania-Indonesia economic ties and follows the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on June 26, 2026, between the Indonesian firm and Tanzania’s Tanganyika Oils and Fats Allied and Foods Products Company at the Tanzanian Embassy in Jakarta.

Speaking during a meeting with Tanzania’s Ambassador to Indonesia, Macocha Tembele, PT Indo Sultan Jaya Managing Director Ahmed Sultan said the project’s first phase would involve an investment of approximately 500,000 US dollars with production machinery scheduled to be shipped to Tanzania in August and arrive in September for installation and trial production.

For his part, Ambassador Tembele said the project would play a key role in adding value to locally available raw materials, facilitating technology transfer, boosting domestic manufacturing and creating employment opportunities for Tanzanians.

He added that the investment is also expected to expand market access for Tanzanian products in neighbouring countries, contributing to the country’s industrialisation and export growth agenda.

The ambassador assured the investor that the Tanzanian Embassy in Jakarta would continue working closely with relevant authorities to facilitate implementation of the project and ensure smooth coordination with institutions in Tanzania.
