GEITA: POLICE in Geita have arrested a 43-year-old man and recovered seven motorcycles suspected to have been stolen in an ongoing crackdown on crime in the region.
Geita Regional Police Commander, Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police (SACP) Safia Jongo, identified the suspect as Philipo Kazungu, a resident of Nkome Ward in Geita District.
She said police also recovered a 43-inch Solarmax television set, an Azam decoder and a Bonanza gambling machine from the suspect. SACP Jongo said the suspect was arrested during routine police operations conducted in collaboration with members of the public to prevent and combat crime.
“As a result of this cooperation, the security situation has remained calm, with residents continuing their daily activities in an environment of peace and stability,” she said.
According to SACP Jongo, preliminary investigations indicate that the recovered motorcycles had been deliberately altered to conceal their identities, including the removal of chassis numbers.

She added that the motorcycles had also been fitted with counterfeit registration number plates in an attempt to disguise their true identities.
“Investigations into the allegations are in their final stages, and once completed, the suspect will be arraigned in court for further legal proceedings,” she said.
SACP Jongo urged members of the public who have lost motorcycles or other property matching the recovered items to report to Geita District Police Station with proof of ownership for identification.
She also appealed to residents to continue cooperating with police by providing information on criminal activities and suspects, saying public support has played a key role in strengthening security across the region.
