ACCRA: THE Tanzanian Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Ambassador Dr Mahmoud Thabit Kombo, has participated in the African Union (AU) Extraordinary Summit on Health at the ministerial level, held in Accra, Ghana.
The ministerial meeting took place on July 21, 2026, ahead of the Heads of State and Government session scheduled for today, July 22, 2026. Tanzanian President Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan is among the African leaders expected to attend the summit.
The extraordinary summit was convened in line with African Union Resolution No. 908, which called for a high-level meeting to address critical health challenges facing the continent and develop strategies to strengthen Africa’s healthcare systems.

During the summit, African leaders are expected to discuss measures aimed at ending HIV/AIDS by 2030, reducing maternal and child mortality, tackling communicable and non-communicable diseases, and strengthening health systems across the continent. The meeting is also expected to adopt a resolution on implementing the African Union’s Health Action Plan.
