MOSHI: MOSHI Urban Water Authority (MUWASA) has advised the residents of the Moshi Municipality to report promptly to the authority whenever a leakage occurs.
Speaking on behalf of the MUWSA Director, Engineer Albert Nangwe said the sewage leakage reported at Kalimani Street in Boma Mbuzi Ward, Moshi Municipality, could be quickly fixed if residents had reported it to the authority.
He said the leakage is not as longstanding as residents claim.
He noted that delays often occur when residents fail to report faults promptly.
“According to our procedures, once a complaint is reported, we address it within 12 hours. If more time passes, it means the residents delayed reporting. And if the problem turns out to be significant, we ask for patience so we can fix it thoroughly and correctly,” he said.
It was claimed that residents of Kalimani Street in Boma Mbuzi Ward, Moshi Municipality, are living in fear of a possible outbreak of waterborne diseases, including cholera, following a burst sewer pipe that has been discharging raw waste into their neighborhood for the past three months.
Speaking to reporters today, the residents said the wastewater has continued to flow unchecked, despite repeated concerns, creating a foul smell and posing serious health and environmental risks.

Omary Salim, a shop owner whose business is located next to the drainage channel carrying the contaminated water, said the situation has made it extremely difficult for him to operate.
Another resident, Idrisa Makishe, expressed concern over the exposure of young children to the contaminated water, noting that they often play near the drainage.
“The sewage is a major risk, especially for small children who treat the area as a playground. They touch the water, fetch it, and play with it. We fear an outbreak of diseases like cholera,” Makishe said.
Zulea Asumani, also a resident of the area, described the wastewater as a serious health hazard that could cause severe consequences if the damaged pipe is not repaired immediately.
