DAR ES SALAAM: THE Resident Magistrate’s Court at Kisutu in Dar es Salaam is today, Monday, December 15, 2025, hearing a bail application filed by former minister Geofrey Mwambe, who is currently being held by the Police.
Mwambe, who has previously held several senior government positions including Director of the Tanzania Investment Centre (TIC), Member of Parliament for Masasi in Mtwara Region under the ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM), Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office (Investment), and Minister for Industry and Trade, has been in custody at the Dar es Salaam Special Police Zone since December 7, 2025.
Following several days in detention, on December 11, 2025, Mwambe, through his lawyer Hekima Mwasipu, filed a bail application in court against the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and two other respondents.

The other respondents in the application are the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) and the Head of the Criminal Investigations Department for the Dar es Salaam Special Police Zone (ZCO).
In the application, case number 289778/2025, which was filed under a certificate of extreme urgency, Mwambe is asking the court to order that he be brought before the court and granted bail under terms to be set by the court.
The matter is scheduled to be heard today at 3:00 a.m. before Chief Resident Magistrate Hassan Makube.
