DAR ES SALAAM: THE Deputy Minister for Education, Science and Technology, Wanu Hafidh Ameir, has directed the contractor, COMFIX & ENGINEERING, to speed up the construction of infrastructure under the Eastern Africa Skills for Transformation and Regional Integration Project (EASTRIP) worth 37bn/-at the Dar es Salaam Institute of Technology (DIT) Mwanza Campus and complete it on time as per the contract.
The Deputy Minister issued the directive when inspecting the progress of the project’s while also instructing all suppliers to ensure that equipment and machinery are delivered and installed on time to enable training to commence as scheduled.
Emphasizing on the need for quick completion of the projects, Wanu said that delays in construction could undermine the government’s objectives of ensuring that youth acquire the skills and competencies required in the domestic and international labour markets.
She further assured citizens and the DIT leadership that the government will continue to strengthen the capacity of the campus, including increasing student enrollment from the current 358 to 2,000.

The development objective of the East Africa Skills for Transformation and Regional Integration Project for Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania and Inter-University Council for East Africa is to increase the access and improve the quality of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programs in selected Regional Flagship TVET Institutes and to support regional integration in East Africa.
The construction is being implemented by the government in collaboration with the World Bank, which has provided a concessional loan to support the project.
