ANKARA: KISWAHILI has continued to gain its ground in international realms where students from the Regional Studies Center (BAM) based in Ankara, Türkiye have already been able to write and speak the language.

This was in a discussion between Tanzania’s Ambassador to Türkiye,  Iddi Seif Bakari, and a delegation from the Center, which, among other activities, is involved in teaching the Kiswahili language.

In their discussion, the delegation noted that the Kiswahili training offered at the BAM Center aims to prepare professionals by equipping them with essential language skills that support communication, research, and the promotion of understanding of the culture, history, and dynamics of the East African region, which includes Tanzania.

They further expressed gratitude for the cooperation they received from the Embassy of Tanzania in teaching Kiswahili, particularly through the provision of a teacher and Kiswahili learning materials.

The delegation, comprising students and coordinators from the center and led by Dr Hursit Dingil, briefed Ambassador Bakari on the center’s mandate, which includes providing training in regional studies and international languages, including Kiswahili, to university students.

Ambassador Bakari commended the center for its prudent decision to include Kiswahili among the languages taught, saying that the embassy will continue to promote the Kiswahili language in Türkiye as part of efforts to commercialize and globalize this important language, which is internationally recognized.

He further assured the students of the embassy’s readiness to collaborate with the center in expanding Kiswahili training programs to reach more interested students.

Additionally, he stated that the program makes a positive contribution to sustaining the historical relations between Tanzania and Türkiye and serves as a cultural bridge that fosters mutual understanding and solidarity between the two countries.

The BAM Center is the second institution in Türkiye offering Kiswahili training under the supervision of the embassy, alongside another center located in Istanbul.
