DODOMA: MINISTER for Home Affairs, George Simbachawene, has urged Tanzanians to safeguard peace and nurture love, noting that these values bring light and enable people to live happily.

He made the remarks during a Christmas service at Pwaga Parish Church in Mpwapwa District, Dodoma Region.

“My message to all Tanzanians during this Christmas celebration is that peace, love, justice and unity bring salvation and light, allowing humans to live with joy and hope, anticipating the day we will meet our Father (God),” he said.

He added, “We must understand that in this world, everything is transient; wealth and material possessions cannot glorify God. It is our lives, the truth we live by, and the love we show each other that reflect God’s glory.” The minister further said that modern life is often filled with falsehoods amplified by technology and that some challenges facing the country today are unprecedented.

“People have become very selfish and lacking in love. They insult each other and speak harshly, which reminds us of difficult times in human history that seem to repeat today,” he said.

Mr Simbachawene further said that Christmas reminds Christians of Christ’s nature, justice, love, unity, salvation and light.

“These values guide the world. We must live in love and recognise everyone’s rights in this life,” he said.

According to a police statement released on Thursday, the country remained peaceful, and Tanzanians celebrated Christmas without incident. Police spokesperson, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), David Misime said the public should continue building the nation, noting there is no threat to security.

“The Tanzania Police Force wishes to thank all citizens for cooperating and recognising the importance of maintaining peace during the Christmas celebrations,” he said.

DCP Misime added that thanks to this cooperation and adherence to laws and regulations, the country remains calm, allowing citizens to celebrate the holiday and carry out other activities without disruption.

He reiterated the call for all Tanzanians to continue protecting and preserving peace, which allows families and friends to celebrate Christmas safely. Even those providing public services, businesspeople, transport operators and others continued their work safely, demonstrating the benefits of peace.

“The Police and other security agencies are with you to ensure everyone remains safe, provided the laws of the country are respected,” DCP Misime said.
