ZANZIBAR: ZANZIBAR President Dr Hussein Mwinyi has reminded senior leaders in public institutions to uphold integrity, justice and compassion when supervising those under their authority and carrying out their official duties.
Dr Mwinyi made the call during the Third FaithBased Forum for leaders of the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar, organised by the Office of the Mufti of Zanzibar.
The event was held at the Sheikh Idriss Abdulwakil Hall in Kikwajuni, Urban West Region, last Sunday.
He said the forum provides an important platform for leaders to reflect on the role of ethics in public service and learn how to balance their professional responsibilities with faithbased values.
“Such principles help improve efficiency and contribute to the overall success of government institutions,” Dr Mwinyi said.
The president encouraged public officials to use the forum as a guide in carrying out their responsibilities with goodwill, integrity, justice and wisdom, saying that leadership is a trust that must be exercised responsibly.
He also warned against favouritism in public institutions and urged leaders to serve as role models by demonstrating compassion, fairness and openness to advice from those they supervise.
Dr Mwinyi noted that institutions that perform well in public service are those where leaders promote values such as love, fairness, integrity and accountability.

Concluding his remarks, he urged participants to take seriously the guidance provided by religious scholars during the forum and apply it in improving their conduct while prioritising faith in their leadership roles.
Dr Mwinyi also commended the Office of the Mufti of Zanzibar and the President’s Office – Constitution, Legal Affairs, Public Service and Good Governance for successfully organising the forum for three consecutive years.
Speaking at the event, the Minister of State in the President’s Office for Constitution, Legal Affairs, Public Service and Good Governance, Haroun Ali Suleiman, and the Executive Secretary of the Mufti’s Office, Sheikh Khalid Mfaume, said such forums help public servants reconnect with their faith and strengthen their sense of responsibility and reverence for God in serving citizens.
Topics discussed during the forum included ethical leadership in the workplace and society, appreciating and supporting leaders, and the role of good character in building a prosperous community.
