
DODOMA: Minister for Lands, Housing and Human Settlements Development, Leonard Akwilapo, has said the Government will continue ensuring citizens legally own land in order to reduce land ownership disputes and facilitate investment in the country.
Presenting the ministry’s 2026/2027 budget estimates in Parliament in Dodoma on May 28, 2026, Akwilapo said the ministry, through the National Land Allocation Committee, approved land use permits for investment projects covering 45,371.24 hectares.
He said the Sixth Phase Government under President Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan continues taking various measures to improve land services and ensure citizens receive quality services efficiently.
In another development, the minister noted that the government has continued strengthening the digital e-Ardhi system, enabling valuation and document registration services to be available in all regions across the country.
He further said local government authorities have been directed to respect citizens’ land rights in order to minimize land conflicts in different parts of the country.
On housing, Akwilapo stated that a total of 149,784 houses, equivalent to 74.89 percent, have been formalized through various settlement regularization programs.

He also said areas covering 24,309.3 hectares have been surveyed in 25 regions through the Special Program for Planning and Surveying Unplanned Settlements nationwide.
The minister added that the government has compensated citizens a total of TSh95.27 billion for various projects, while 3.13 million citizens continue benefiting from land and housing registration services across the country.
