DAR ES SALAAM: THE Business Registrations and Licensing Agency (BRELA) has unveiled an upgraded online registration system aimed at improving efficiency, transparency, and convenience in the delivery of company registration services in Tanzania.
The improved platform, known as the BRELA Online Service (BOS), introduces new digital features that simplify how businesses register, submit company information, and monitor activities linked to their firms.
In a statement issued in Dar es Salaam BRELA said the upgraded system allows applicants to enter details of directors, shareholders, and company secretaries only once, reducing duplication that existed under the previous system.
The agency said the new platform also strengthens the identification of joint shareholders by enabling them to directly submit their information into the system and receive official recognition from the Registrar.
In another major improvement, directors, shareholders, and company secretaries can now monitor activities taking place within their companies through the system.
Once an application is submitted by one party, notifications will automatically be sent to all individuals linked to the company.
BRELA said the move is intended to increase transparency and strengthen accountability in company operations.
The upgraded BOS platform has also integrated the registration of charges and debentures, allowing applications to be submitted online instead of through the previous process.
The agency noted that the change will help reduce paperwork and save time for customers.
Additionally, the system now includes a name clearance feature that allows users to verify proposed company names before beginning the registration process.
According to BRELA, this is expected to reduce delays caused by the rejection of names that resemble existing companies or fail to meet registration standards.
Customers with accounts in the former Online Registration System (ORS) have been advised to either use their existing email address and select the “Forget Password” option or create a new account through the “Create New Account” feature to gain access to the BOS platform.
BRELA clarified that applications already submitted through the ORS system will continue to be processed there until completion.
However, all new applications for company registration, annual returns, company information updates, company closures, and related services will now be handled through BOS.
The agency said the transition forms part of broader efforts to modernise business registration services and improve the ease of doing business in Tanzania.
