DODOMA: THE Ministry for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation has expressed concern over what it described as widespread misinformation and misleading interpretations circulating on social media following the presentation of its 2026/27 budget speech in Parliament.
A statement issued by the ministry in Dodoma today, May 28, 2026, stated that some online platforms had deliberately distorted the content and context of the speech presented by the Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Mahmoud Thabit Kombo on May 26, 2026.
According to the ministry, the misinformation was intended to create confusion among the public and undermine the country’s image, as well as the principles of diplomacy, sovereignty and national unity.
“In light of this, the ministry wishes to inform the public that it will continue providing official clarification through media outlets and various communication platforms to ensure Tanzanian citizens receive accurate information and the proper government context regarding the issues discussed in the speech,” the ministry stated.
However, the ministry also commended local media outlets for facilitating broad national discussions on the budget speech, saying the debates reflected patriotism, national solidarity and support for safeguarding Tanzania’s sovereignty and dignity.
According to the statement, the discussions demonstrated the maturity of Tanzania’s diplomacy, democracy and patriotism, particularly at a time when concerns have emerged regarding the positions of some foreign countries on the internal affairs of other nations.
The ministry further urged social media users, media stakeholders and the public to exercise freedom of expression responsibly, while observing professionalism, ethics, the laws of the country and the need to preserve peace, national unity and the dignity of the nation.
