DAR ES SALAAM: THE Tanzanian government has called on Tanzanians to take an active role in preserving and researching historical remains and cultural heritage sites noting that such efforts can strengthen economic diplomacy and increase national revenue through heritage tourism.
Deputy Minister for Natural Resources and Tourism Hamad Hassan Chande made the call during a special visit to the National Museum of Tanzania in Dar es Salaam, where he met researchers and assessed efforts to preserve historical heritage.

Speaking during the inspection, the minister said that research is the foundation of progress in every sector, urging scholars and the public to visit museums and heritage sites to learn about Tanzania’s history while encouraging students to conduct research in the field.
“Research is the solution to everything. When you undertake any activity based on research, its success can be measured,” he said, calling on citizens to make use of museums as centres of knowledge and learning.

He also instructed the institution to complete a digital system that will allow tourists to plan visits and make payments before arrival, saying the innovation will improve efficiency and enhance visitor experience.
Mr Chande further urged Tanzanians to use the upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament as an opportunity to promote the country’s heritage tourism both locally and internationally.
He added that the government is ready to review heritage regulations to attract investors into historical sites and transform museums into key contributors to the national economy and sustainable development.
