DAR ES SALAAM: A weekend packed with commanding victories, explosive batting displays and nerve-wracking finishes has pushed the Petrofuel TCA Caravans T20 Cup 2026 closer to its defining stage, with Aurobindo AKSC, Alliance Caravans and Mapito Upanga SC emerging as the tournament’s strongest title contenders.

Tournament representative Girish Kumar said the weekend reflected the growing quality of competition as the race for both team honours and individual accolades intensifies.
“This weekend showcased the complete spectrum of T20 cricket. We witnessed dominant bowling, fearless batting and a match that went right down to the final two deliveries,” Kumar said.
“The race for the PigaBet Player of the Series Award is becoming one of the tournament’s most exciting stories because it recognizes players who consistently influence matches with the bat, ball and in the field, rather than those who produce just one outstanding performance.”
Mapito Upanga SC opened the weekend in devastating fashion, crushing Tossil SCC by 120 runs after posting 164 for eight before skittling their opponents for just 44.
The destruction was spearheaded by Ramesh Alluri, who produced a sensational spell of five wickets for 15 runs, while Ajay Yadav tightened the screws from the opposite end, conceding only eight runs in his four-over spell.
Earlier, Sanjay Bom had laid the foundation for Mapito’s commanding total with an explosive 42 off only 19 deliveries.
Sunday’s clash against Alliance Caravans, however, proved a far sterner examination.
Powered by an unbeaten 80 from Fersico Adams, featuring seven towering sixes, and a composed 58 from Alishihab Bukhari, Mapito posted an imposing 162 for six.
Alliance Caravans responded with remarkable composure.
Ajith K Augastin struck a fluent 61, while Amal Rajeevan added a valuable 46 as Alliance paced their chase superbly before reaching the target with two balls remaining to seal a memorable four-wicket victory.
Kumar praised Alliance’s calmness under pressure.
“That final match was significant because Alliance never panicked when the required run rate began to climb. They stayed composed, built important partnerships and completed a difficult chase against one of the tournament’s strongest teams,” he said.

If Alliance demonstrated composure, Aurobindo AKSC showcased ruthless efficiency.
After restricting Tossil SCC to 110 for nine, Aurobindo stormed to 113 for one in just eight overs, producing the fastest chase of the weekend.
Dhrumit Mehta blasted 57 from only 26 balls, while Abhik Patwa hammered 40 off 19 deliveries as Aurobindo attacked relentlessly from the outset to further strengthen their position among the competition’s front-runners.
The victory was built on an outstanding bowling display by Sivaraj Selvaraj, whose figures of three for 10 included an astonishing 17 dot balls in his four-over spell.
Aruti Aces also maintained their momentum with a convincing 28-run victory over Novum Lions.
The star performer was Ally Mpeka, who delivered the weekend’s standout all-round display, smashing an unbeaten 31 before dismantling Novum’s chase with outstanding figures of three wickets for 16 runs.
The latest round highlighted the contrasting strengths of the leading contenders.
Mapito demonstrated their ability to dominate opponents through disciplined bowling and aggressive batting. Aurobindo combined clinical bowling with fearless run-scoring, Alliance displayed resilience and maturity under pressure, while Aruti relied on balanced team cricket and impactful all-round performances.
Kumar believes the performances have also intensified the battle for the tournament’s top individual honour.
“The Player of the Series race remains wide open because different players are influencing matches in different ways. A five-wicket haul, an unbeaten 80, a rapid half-century or a decisive all-round performance can all reshape the standings at this stage of the tournament,” he said.
