DAR ES SALAAM: TANZANIAN students have a fresh opportunity to pursue further education and professional training in India, with the Indian government offering 1,135 scholarships for the 2026/2027 academic year.
The package includes 1,000 places for short-term training and 135 scholarships for long-term academic programmes, opening new opportunities for Tanzanians seeking to advance their education and professional skills.
The announcement was made during the Third Round of Foreign Office Consultations between Tanzania and India, held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation in Dar es Salaam.
The consultations were co-chaired by the Director of the Asia and Australasia Department in Tanzania’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Felista Sanyu Rugambwa, and the Director of the East and Southern Africa Division in India’s Ministry of External Affairs, Shri Janesh Kain.
India’s High Commissioner to Tanzania, Bishwadip Dey, and senior officials from both countries also attended the meeting.
Beyond scholarships, the consultations provided an opportunity for Tanzania and India to assess progress in implementing agreements reached during their previous diplomatic consultations and identify new areas for cooperation.

The discussions covered key sectors, including education, health, water, information and communication technology (ICT), agriculture, tourism, trade and investment, culture, training, knowledge exchange, defence and security.
The two sides also discussed development projects being implemented with support from concessional loans.
The Tanzanian government praised India’s continued contribution to the country’s socio-economic development, particularly through cooperation in health, education and defence.
Tanzania also recognised India’s support through scholarship programmes and concessional financing for water supply projects and other development initiatives benefiting Tanzanians.
