DAR ES SALAAM: TANZANIA is stepping up efforts to transform its mining sector through increased mineral value addition, with the upcoming 7th Tanzania Mining and Investment Conference (TMIC 2026) expected to provide a platform for unlocking new development and investment opportunities.

Minister for Minerals Anthony Mavunde said the conference will be a significant milestone for the country’s mining industry as it will showcase achievements made in the sector while creating opportunities for further growth.

Speaking on Saturday, to kick-start preparations for the conference, Mavunde said a 3-day conference is scheduled to take place at the Julius Nyerere International Convention Centre in November this year.

According to him, the mining sector has continued to make progress and that the conference will bring together key stakeholders to promote available opportunities in the industry, strengthen cooperation between the government and the private sector, and share experiences on the use of technologies that can support further growth.

“We expect the conference to provide many opportunities, including promoting investment areas, strengthening cooperation between the public and private sectors in developing the mining industry, and sharing the use of technologies that will help further grow this sector,” Mavunde said.

The minister explained that mining remains one of the key pillars of Tanzania’s economy and that the sector’s contribution to national development continues to increase due to various measures being implemented by the government.

He said the government has prioritised mineral value addition within the country as part of efforts to maximise economic benefits from natural resources.

Mavunde noted that Tanzania currently has eight gold processing and refining plants, as well as more than 16 mineral value addition facilities operating in different regions. With Dodoma region hosting nine mineral value addition facilities.

He stressed that the government’s goal is to ensure that no minerals leave the country without undergoing value addition processes, saying the approach will enhance Tanzania’s reputation in the mining industry and deliver greater economic benefits to citizens.

“These reforms and others are part of the government’s strategy to ensure the mining sector continues to make a significant contribution to Tanzania’s economic growth,” Mavunde said.

The 7th Tanzania Mining and Investment Conference 2026 will be held under the theme, “Value-added minerals: A catalyst for industrial and economic growth.”
