ZANZIBAR: ACT- Wazalendo Chairman Othman Masoud Othman has pledged that his party will ensure the ongoing reconciliation process serves the wider interests of Zanzibar, insisting that the initiative is not designed to benefit political parties or individuals.

He said the agreements reached between Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) and ACT- Wazalendo are aimed at building a stronger Zanzibar anchored on good governance, accountability, political stability and sustainable development.

Othman said the next phase of the process will involve a joint committee tasked with conducting a detailed review of key areas requiring reforms, including the electoral system, public service, justice delivery, local government structures and measures to rebuild trust among citizens.

He said the review will pave the way for the establishment of a special implementation body that will oversee execution of the agreed measures in accordance with the law and an agreed timetable.

“The purpose of these steps is not to provide solutions for political parties, but to build a Zanzibar with strong institutions, good governance and a peaceful environment that supports investment and development,” he said.

He urged citizens to support the reconciliation process and help educate those with doubts, saying successful implementation of the agreements would determine whether public confidence is restored.

Othman said Zanzibar’s future depends on maintaining peace, stability and genuine reconciliation, noting that the island has the potential to become a regional hub for trade, services and the blue economy.
