SINGIDA: THE Tanzanian government has said it is committed to ensuring that all 64,359 subdivisions in the country are connected to electricity by 2030, as part of efforts to improve the lives of citizens and stimulate economic development through the Rural Energy Agency (REA).
The statement was made on today July 16, 2026 by the Chairman of the Rural Energy Board (REB), Ambassador Retired Major General Jacob Kingu, during the electricity switching on ceremony in Mwamlula at Mseko Village and Kipeke Subdistrict Iramba district in Singida region.

Ambassador Kingu said that so far 62.4 percent of sub districts in the country have already been connected to electricity, while the government continues to invest to ensure that the remaining subdistricts are connected within the planned timeframe.
He commended President Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan for continuing to enable REA to implement rural and sub-district electrification projects, saying that the move has been an important catalyst for the development of the people.
He encouraged the people who are reached by the service to use electricity to start wealth-generating activities and various economic projects instead of using it for ordinary consumption only.
“Electricity is an opportunity to change lives. Citizens can increase their income through business and other productive activities, while essential social services are improved due to the availability of reliable energy,” he said.
Speaking at the event, the Representative of the Director General of REA, engineer Thomas Mbaga said Singida region has 2,289 sub-districts, of which 1,196 sub-districts, equivalent to 52.25 percent, have already been connected to electricity, while 1,093 sub-districts, equivalent to 47.75 percent, are still being reached through ongoing projects.

He said the government has already spent approximately 94.6bn/-to implement electricity projects in Singida Region and urged citizens to protect the infrastructure so that it can last and benefit them for a long time.
A resident of Mwamlula Subdistrict, Ms Lucia Constantine, said citizens have happily received the service and have planned to use it in income-generating activities as well as improve the lives of their families.
