DODOMA: THE Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation responsible for East African Affairs, Charles Kadonya, has urged ministry officials to strengthen teamwork, accountability and professionalism to ensure Tanzania maintains a strong voice in regional affairs and effectively safeguards its national interests.
The PS made the call during a meeting with staff from departments handling East African affairs in Mtumba, Dodoma, where he said every officer plays a critical role in preparing Tanzania’s official positions for meetings of the East African Community (EAC).
He stressed that regional cooperation requires thorough preparation, effective coordination and close collaboration across departments, calling on officials to work as one team, follow leadership directives and deliver assignments on time.
“We must understand that each one of us has a role in shaping the country’s position. Whenever we participate in regional discussions, we represent Tanzania’s interests, and therefore our preparations must be comprehensive and of the highest quality,” he said.

The Permanent Secretary also underscored the importance of preparing and submitting Back-to-Office Reports after participating in regional meetings, saying they are essential for institutional learning and improving future engagements.
During the meeting, staff outlined challenges affecting the implementation of their duties and proposed measures to improve departmental performance, including strengthening internal coordination and enhancing communication systems.
Responding to the concerns, Mr Kadonya encouraged employees to take advantage of his open-door policy by freely sharing ideas, challenges and recommendations that could help improve the ministry’s performance.
“No institution is without challenges. What matters is fostering a culture of dialogue and working together to find solutions,” he said.
