MWANZA: GEITA Gold Mining Limited (GGML) has said it will continue to strengthen the participation of Tanzanians in the mining sector through employment, procurement of goods and services from local companies as well as providing various opportunities for youth.
Speaking during the Fifth Local Content Compliance Forum 2026 in Mwanza, GGML Human resource Manager, Dominic Marandu, said the company has succeeded in ensuring that 98 percent of its employees are Tanzanians.
Mr Marandu said the move reflects GGML’s commitment to empower Tanzanians to directly benefit from mineral resources through productive employment.
He explained that more than 80 percent of the company’s leaders are Tanzanians, which demonstrates significant progress in building the capacity of local professionals to hold leadership positions.
“We have continued to involve local companies in our daily operations. A large part of our procurement of goods and services is done through Tanzanian companies to increase the contribution of the mining sector to the country’s economy,” Mr Marandu.
He added that GGML is working closely with the Mining Commission to ensure that tendering adheres to local content principles and that emerging challenges are resolved collaboratively.
In addition, he said the company has continued to be recognized for its contribution to the national economy, including being awarded a Presidential Award for being among the largest taxpayers in the country.
For his part, the GGML representative said Tanzanians should continue to benefit from mineral resources as the sector is a key driver of economic development.

He said the company has been providing jobs to thousands of Tanzanians, with about 7,000 people directly benefiting from the mine’s operations, most of them locals.
He also said GGML has continued to provide training opportunities to youth through various apprenticeship and practical training programs, where more than 1,200 youth have obtained such opportunities in recent years.
He stressed that the company will continue to collaborate with the government and other stakeholders to ensure that the mining sector benefits more citizens through employment, skills and business opportunities for local companies.
