HAVANA: THE International Languages Center at the University of Havana has held a cultural festival aimed at promoting the cultures of countries associated with the international languages taught at the institution, marking a significant milestone with the first-ever inclusion of the Kiswahili language.
The teaching of the Kiswahili language officially began in April 2024.
According to a statement issued by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, the inclusion of the Kiswahili language represents a significant step in the ongoing efforts of the government and various stakeholders to promote the language globally.

In addition to the teaching of Kiswahili at the University of Havana, the African House of Culture (Casa de Africa) has continued to offer Kiswahili lessons to primary school children, an initiative that has further strengthened efforts to disseminate and promote the Kiswahili language in the Latin American region.
The University of Havana offers a total of nine (9) international languages, which are Kiswahili, French, German, Spanish, Japanese, Chinese, Russian, Portuguese, and English.
