DAR ES SALAAM: THE Tanzanian government has reaffirmed its commitment to continue cooperating with member states of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) in strengthening peace, security, and stability across the region.

The statement was made during the Extraordinary Summit of Heads of State and Government of the SADC Organ Troika on Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation, which was held virtually to discuss security matters and measures aimed at enhancing stability in the region.

Speaking during the Permanent Secretaries’ level session held through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation offices in Dar es Salaam, the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Ambassador Dr. Samwel Shelukindo, said Tanzania supports and commends mediation efforts being undertaken by SADC in addressing emerging security challenges within the region.

Ambassador Shelukindo said Tanzania will continue working with SADC member states in efforts to strengthen defence and security cooperation, while ensuring that peace and stability are maintained across the region.

The SADC Organ Troika on Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation consists of three countries: Malawi as the current Chairperson, Eswatini as the incoming Chairperson, and Tanzania as the outgoing Chairperson.

The Organ is mandated to oversee political, defence, and security matters, as well as ensure that peace, security, and stability are maintained among SADC member states.
