DAR ES SALAAM: THE ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) and the European Union (EU) have reaffirmed the importance of strengthening cooperation, good governance, peace and national unity as key pillars for Tanzania’s sustainable development.

This was reached during a meeting between CCM’s Secretary General Asha-Rose Migiro and EU Ambassador to Tanzania Christine Grau at the CCM Secretary General’s Office in Lumumba, Dar es Salaam, as part of farewell engagements ahead of Ambassador Grau’s completion of her tour of duty in the country.

During their talks, the two leaders reviewed the long-standing partnership between Tanzania and the EU and discussed ways to further strengthen cooperation for the benefit of both sides.

In their discussion, Ms Migiro stressed the importance of maintaining political stability, accountability and justice, saying the principles remain central to building a nation guided by good governance and sustainable development.

The meeting also touched on challenges that emerged during the previous General Election period and steps being taken by the government to strengthen public confidence, including the establishment of inquiry mechanisms, criminal investigations and other legal measures aimed at ensuring accountability and justice.

Additionally, CCM’s Secretary General said efforts to strengthen democracy, including the constitutional review process outlined in the CCM 2025–2030 Election Manifesto, remain part of the long-term vision to enhance good governance and national cohesion.

Furthermore, they also discussed the role of youth in Tanzania’s development journey, emphasising the need to ensure they remain active participants in the implementation of the National Development Vision 2050 and the creation of a competitive and inclusive economy.

CCM expressed appreciation for its cooperation with the European Union, saying the partnership will continue to grow based on mutual respect, shared interests and a common commitment to sustainable development.
