MWANZA: THE Tanzanian government has affirmed to enhance land surveying services and the issuance of land titles to enable its citizens to use their land as a development resource and increase their economic potential, the Minister for Land, Housing and Human Settlements Development, Dr. Leonard Akwilapo, said today, July 6,2026.

Dr Akwilapo made the remarks during the distribution of 527 land titles in Solwe village at Kwimba district in Mwanza

He said the availability of land titles enables citizens to use their land as collateral to obtain loans from various financial institutions, a move that stimulates investment, business and family development.

He explained that the Government continues to emphasize official land surveying in various areas of the country to reduce and ultimately eliminate land conflicts that have been hindering development in some areas.

The Land Officer of Kwimba District Council, Mr Joshua Majimbe said that their district has a total of 119 villages, of which 97 villages are qualified to prepare land use plans.

He said that among those villages, 24 villages have already prepared land use plans in collaboration with the National Land Use Planning Commission, while 22 villages have already been officially announced through the Government Gazette.

Mr Majimbe said that despite these successes, the implementation of land surveying and land titling activities has been facing challenges of budget constraints as well as a shortage of staff in the council’s Land Department.

As a result, he said the Council entered into an agreement with private surveying companies to collaborate in preparing Customary Titles in 15 villages that were earmarked for land use in 2023.

He explained that the companies were assigned to project implementation areas based on a formal agreement (MoU), a move aimed at speeding up the surveying and issuance of titles to citizens.
