
GENEVA: THE Minister for Constitutional and Legal Affairs, Dr Juma Zuberi Homera, said the Tanzanian government continues to take various measures to improve access to social services, particularly in the health, water, and electricity sectors, through the implementation of development projects and citizen-centred policies.
Speaking while delivering Tanzania’s statement at the 61st Session of the United Nations Human Rights Council held in Geneva, Switzerland, Dr Homera explained that the government is placing strong emphasis on improving social services, strengthening good governance, and promoting inclusive development in order to safeguard the dignity and well-being of its citizens.
He outlined key initiatives being undertaken, including the launch of the Tanzania Development Vision 2050, the implementation of the National Universal Health Insurance Plan, and the strengthening of health, water, and electricity infrastructure. These efforts are aimed at reducing poverty and expanding economic opportunities for the population.
In promoting social equity, Dr Homera noted that the government is implementing strategic projects such as the Julius Nyerere Hydropower Project. Additionally, it has continued to implement the free education policy and increase the number of beneficiaries of higher education loans to broaden access to education.

Regarding efforts to build a united and cohesive nation, the government has established a Ministry of Youth Development to enhance youth participation in national development. It is also implementing programs to eradicate violence against women and children, while improving access to justice through the Legal Aid Campaign and the use of digital systems in the justice sector.
Dr Homera emphasised that Tanzania will continue to cooperate with the international community in promoting and protecting human rights through dialogue, collaboration, and respect for fundamental human rights principles.
