DODOMA: THE Parliament has commended President Samia Suluhu Hassan for major investments in the sports sector, saying the initiatives have directly contributed to the strong performance of national teams in international competitions.

The lawmakers commended the Head of State today, May 29, 2026 at the ongoing parliament in Dodoma during a debate following a motion moved by Bunda Town MP Esther Bulaya, who tabled a parliamentary resolution congratulating the Under-17 national football team, Serengeti Boys, for reaching the AFCON U-17 final in Morocco and qualifying for the 2026 FIFA U-17 World Cup.

Presenting the motion, the MP said President Samia’s investment in sports infrastructure and development programmes has been key in elevating Tanzania’s performance across various national teams.

She cited recent achievements including Serengeti Boys reaching the AFCON final and qualifying for the World Cup, Tanzanite Queens U-20 securing a place in global competitions, and Twiga Stars earning a slot in the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

The motion received broad support from MPs, who praised government efforts in strengthening the sports sector and creating an enabling environment for youth talent development across the country.
