FRANCE: FORMER Tanzanian President, Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete, has arrived in France on a working visit to  chair the Board meetings of the Global Partnership for Education (GPE), an international organization involved in the development of education worldwide, where he serves as the Chairman of the Board.

Kikwete was received at Charles de Gaulle International Airport by the Tanzanian Ambassador to France, Saidi Othman Yakubu, along with staff from the Tanzanian Embassy in the country.

In his capacity as Chairman of the GPE Board, Kikwete leads international efforts aimed at enhancing access to quality, inclusive, and equitable education for children in developing countries. GPE is an international partnership that brings together governments, development agencies, the private sector, civil society, and other education stakeholders to help low – and middle-income countries improve their education systems.

Through this partnership, GPE provides financial and technical support to partner countries to increase access to primary and secondary education, improve the quality of teaching and learning, strengthen gender equality in education, and ensure that children in vulnerable situations have access to education.

Kikwete’s leadership of GPE has continued to strengthen the contribution of Africa and developing countries to international discussions on education while emphasizing the importance of education as a key tool for sustainable development and social well-being.

During his visit to France, Kikwete is expected to chair various sessions of the GPE Board as well as participate in strategic discussions on the future of education worldwide.
