MEXICO CITY: THE Minister for Information, Culture, Arts and Sports Paul Makonda has said that Tanzania is using the 2026 FIFA World Cup as a learning platform to strengthen preparations for hosting the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Speaking on an interview through a phone call from Mexico, where he is attending World Cup matches at the invitation of FIFA President Gianni Infantino, Makonda said the visit offers a rare opportunity to observe firsthand how the world’s biggest football tournament is organized and managed.
He noted that the knowledge and experience gained from the tournament will help Tanzania improve its sports sector and enhance its capacity to host major international competitions.
