MWANZA: MWANZA region has continued to prove its excellence in the education and sports sector after winning the Inter-Secondary School tournament for the fifth consecutive time, with the Regional Commissioner(RC) Said Mtanda, congratulating teachers, students, parents and education stakeholders for their contribution that enabled this success.

Mtanda made the congratulations oday while receiving 48 teachers from Zanzibar who arrived in Mwanza Region for a training visit aimed at learning methods that contribute to the success of Mwanza Region in the education sector as well as visiting various tourist attractions in the region.

He said the successes that Mwanza region continues to achieve in education and sports are due to the great cooperation between the Government, teachers, parents, students and development stakeholders, which has made the region continue to be a role model in the country.

Speaking about the results of this year’s National Examination Council of Tanzania(NECTA) Form Six Examination, Mtanda said Mwanza Region had 6,422 candidates, of which 3,667 students, equivalent to 57 percent, obtained First Class, 2,163 students obtained Second Class and 568 students obtained Third Class.

He explained that overall the success rate from First to Third Class has reached 99.9 percent, an achievement that continues to place Mwanza Region among the leading regions nationally in the results of Form Four and Form Six examinations.

Meanwhile, the Regional Commissioner congratulated Nsumba, Sengerema and Nganza Secondary Schools for performing better in the Form Six results, with 148 students achieving First Class with points between 3 and 5.

Apart from academic achievements, Mtanda said Mwanza region has continued to do well in the sports sector by winning the UMISETA competition five times in a row, which he said shows the region’s commitment to developing students’ talents alongside education.

Furthermore, He said these achievements are also visible in the cultural sector, where the Kanindo dance group from Nyamagana District has continued to win the championship for five consecutive years, a move that demonstrates the efforts of Mwanza Region in preserving, developing and honoring Tanzanian culture.

Mtanda stressed that the regional government will continue to invest in improving the learning and teaching environment as well as promoting sports and cultural activities to maintain these achievements and make Mwanza continue to be a leader in education, sports and culture in the country.
