MTWARA: ENERGY Minister Deogratious Ndejembi has praised the Electrical Transmission and Distribution Construction and Maintenance Company Limited (ETDCO) for completing a 33kV electricity project in Newala Town, Mtwara region, ahead of schedule.
Mr Ndejembi commended the company during the inauguration of the 4.6-billion-shilling project, which is expected to improve electricity supply in Newala and surrounding areas.
“I commend ETDCO for its speed, timely completion and accuracy in constructing the 76-kilometre power transmission line. You have set a good example,” he said.
For his part, the Tanzania Electric Supply Company (TANESCO) Managing Director Lazaro Twange said construction of the project began in October 2025 and was completed in seven months, five months ahead of the original 12-month schedule.
“The project was scheduled to take 12 months, from October 2025 to October 2026. However, ETDCO completed the work within seven months,” he mentioned.

Speaking to journalists during the inauguration ceremony, ETDCO Acting Manager, Eng Richard Mwanja, attributed the project’s timely completion to the company’s commitment to professionalism, integrity and efficiency.
ETDCO, a wholly owned subsidiary of TANESCO, specialises in the construction and maintenance of electrical transmission and distribution infrastructure. The company is also a Class One contractor providing power infrastructure and network maintenance services.
