ZANZIBAR: THE Zanzibar Second Vice-President, Mr Hemed Suleiman Abdulla has urged Muslim clerics Sheikhs, Imams and Madrasa teachers to continue praying for the nation and its leaders so that God may shield the country against calamities.
Speaking on behalf of President Hussein Ali Mwinyi during a special national prayer at Masjid Mushauwar, Muembe Shauri area, Unguja Urban District, Mr Hemed said believers receive divine protection when they gather and pray collectively.
“Religious leaders, especially Sheikhs and Imams, played a major role in praying for peace ahead of the recent general election. Your efforts helped to ensure harmony before, during and after the polls,” he said.
The Second Vice-President further called on Zanzibaris and Tanzanians at large to safeguard the prevailing peace, stressing that stability is the foundation of national development.
The Mufti of Zanzibar, Alhajj Sheikh Saleh Omar Kaabi, reminded worshippers that Zanzibar has long been known for its peaceful character and must continue to protect that legacy for the benefit of present and future generations.

He affirmed that the Mufti’s Office will continue preaching peace in pursuit of the pleasure of the God.
The Executive Secretary of the Mufti’s Office, Sheikh Khalid Ali Mfaume, cautioned citizens against taking peace for granted, warning that its collapse carries devastating consequences including economic decline, disrupted social services and widespread fear.
He explained that the national prayer session sought to ask for continued safety for the country and divine guidance for President Samia Suluhu Hassan and President Hussein Mwinyi.
Sheikh Khalid also warned the public not to be influenced by a small group calling for demonstrations on December 9, saying such actions could destabilise the nation.
He urged unity, mutual respect and restraint, describing peace as ‘inheritance’ that must be protected for future generations.”
