DAR ES SALAAM: THE Minister for Transport, Professor Makame Mbarawa, said the Tanzanian government will continue improving transportation services by using clean energy as part of ongoing efforts to protect the environment.
Prof. Mbarawa made the remarks today, November 26, 2025, during the first-ever Sustainable Land Transport Week 2025, held at the Julius Nyerere International Convention Centre (JNICC) in Dar es Salaam. The event was officially opened by Prime Minister Dr. Mwigulu Nchemba under the theme: “Clean Energy and Innovation in Transport.”
The minister highlighted achievements in the use of clean energy, including the modern Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) service from Dar es Salaam to Dodoma.
He added that other forms of clean-energy transport include Dar es Salaam’s Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system, several private vehicles, as well as three-wheeled transport vehicles (bajaji). He also underscored the Government’s efforts to continue expanding access to clean-energy services for transport in the country to safeguard the environment.

For his part, the Director General of the Land Transport Regulatory Authority (LATRA), CPA Habibu Suluo, said that President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s directives in the transport sector have significantly helped resolve conflicts among stakeholders in the transport industry.
CPA Suluo explained that one of the reasons for establishing the commemorative week is to discuss ways of creating various opportunities within the transport service chain, especially through digital systems.
Speaking on behalf of the Dar es Salaam Regional Commissioner, Albert Chalamila, the Ilala District Commissioner, Edward Mpogolo, said that Dar es Salaam Region has remained safe, with transport services continuing normally.
He noted that this stability is supported by the substantial efforts made by transport sector stakeholders under the supervision of the Ministry of Transport through the Land Transport Regulatory Authority (LATRA).
