DAR ES SALAAM: TANZANIA and the diplomatic corps accredited to the country have reaffirmed their continuous commitment to deepening cooperation and strengthening the bonds of mutual partnership.

The Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Ambassador Mahmoud Thabit Kombo was quoted yesterday as saying that the mutual pledge proves the country’s maturity in diplomacy and strong ties with the development partners.

Cooperation between Tanzania and partner countries is crucial for economic growth, energy security, regional stability and human development through increased trade, investment and infrastructure development.

It facilitates regional integration, such as Tanzania’s role in the East African Power Pool, enhances access to financial and technical resources for sustainable development, supports human capital through education and health initiatives, and strengthens governance.

Partnerships with countries like the United Kingdom, United States of America (USA), China, the European Union (EU) members and others help attract investment, promote trade and address shared challenges like climate change and migration.

As for economic and infrastructure development there is an issue of regional integration: Partnerships enable Tanzania to serve as a regional hub, like its role in the Eastern and Southern Africa Power Pools, which boosts energy security and trade.

Regional connectivity is also enhanced through infrastructure projects like the Tazara railway that connects land-linked countries and supports the Belt and Road Initiative.

Trade and investment: Cooperation strengthens the business environment by attracting Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), boosting trade activities and creating jobs.

Partnerships with countries that import goods like gold and cashew nuts and those that invests in infrastructure, create markets and opportunities for Tanzanian businesses.

Sustainable development: Partnerships provide financial and technical support for sustainable projects in sectors like agriculture, fisheries and waste management. This is often focused on fostering inclusive and environmentally friendly growth, creating jobs for women and youth and improving urban areas.

Partner countries support initiatives to improve education, enhance teacher training and promote digital innovation. Partnerships also focus on strengthening gender equality in education.and social services: Cooperation helps expand access to services.
