MIRERANI: CHUSA Mining Limited has begun construction of a 230m/- women and children’s ward at Mirerani Health Centre in Simanjiro District, Manyara Region, as part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme.
The facility is expected to improve maternal and child healthcare services for thousands of residents once completed.
The foundation stone for the project was laid yesterday by the leader of the 2026 Uhuru Torch Race, Ismail Mwang’onda, who commended the company for supporting government efforts to improve access to healthcare.
Mr Mwang’onda said the investment reflects the important role the private sector can play in complementing government initiatives to expand social services.
He also attributed such investments to the conducive business environment created by the Sixth Phase Government under President Samia Suluhu Hassan, which has encouraged investors to give back to the communities in which they operate.
Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, who is also Simanjiro Member of Parliament, James Ole Millya, described the project as a major boost to healthcare services in the district.
He said the ward will help address the shortage of admission facilities for women and children, improving access to quality healthcare for local residents.
Chusa Mining Limited Managing Director, Mr Joseph Mwakipesile thanked the government, particularly the Ministry of Minerals, for creating a supportive environment that has enabled the company to expand its operations and contribute to community development.

He said the company decided to finance the project after learning of the shortage of ward space for women and children at Mirerani Health Centre.
“We are honoured that the Uhuru Torch has laid the foundation stone for this project, which will greatly benefit the people of Mirerani once completed,” Mr Mwakipesile said.
Mirerani Health Centre Medical Officer in Charge, Dr Namnyaki Lukumay, said the project aims to improve access to quality and patient-friendly healthcare services for women and children while strengthening the health of families and the wider community.
“Once completed, the ward will serve about 5,000 women and more than 7,000 children every year, significantly improving access to maternal and child healthcare services at Mirerani Health Centre,” Dr Lukumay said.
She thanked the government under President Samia Suluhu Hassan for improving healthcare services and commended Chusa Mining Limited for complementing those efforts through its corporate social responsibility programme.
