SALIMA:  A Tanzania delegation has arrived in Malawi ahead of the SADC Ministerial Committee of the Organ on Politics, Defence and Security (MCO) meeting scheduled for July 16 and 17, 2026.

The delegation, led by Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, James Millya, includes Deputy Minister for Home Affairs Ayoub Mohammed Mahmoud and other senior government officials.

Upon arrival in Malawi,, the delegation held a preparatory meeting and received a briefing on Tanzania’s participation in the regional security meeting from Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Ambassador Said Shaib Mussa, and Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Home Affairs, Dr Maduhu Kazi.

According to information from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation the meeting is expected to deliberate on key political, defence and security matters aimed at strengthening peace, stability and regional cooperation among members of the Southern African Development Community (SADC).

“The MCO meeting brings together ministers responsible for politics, defence and security from SADC member states to discuss emerging regional challenges and coordinate collective responses,” part of the ministry’s statement read.
