DAR ES SALAAM: Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi was officially received at the State House in Dar es Salaam by his host, President Samia Suluhu Hassan, as he began a state visit to Tanzania.
A 21-gun salute was fired in honour of President El-Sisi’s arrival, marking the ceremonial welcome. He becomes only the second Egyptian president to visit Tanzania, following the historic visit by former Egyptian President Gamal Abdel Nasser in 1968.
President El-Sisi’s visit comes as Tanzania and Egypt continue to strengthen their long-standing diplomatic relations and cooperation across various sectors.
The two leaders are expected to hold bilateral talks focusing on trade, investment, energy, agriculture, and development cooperation.

President Nasser visited Tanzania during the administration of the country’s founding president, Mwalimu Julius Nyerere, at a time when the two nations maintained close ties through Africa’s liberation movements and cooperation among developing countries.
President El-Sisi’s visit marks the first by an Egyptian head of state to Tanzania in more than five decades since President Nasser’s trip, and is expected to open a new chapter in bilateral relations between the two countries.
