DAR ES SALAAM: THE Deputy Speaker of the Parliament of the United Republic of Tanzania, Daniel Sillo, has presented Tanzania’s proposals aimed at strengthening cooperation among the parliaments of member states of the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS).
The proposals include enhancing the exchange of parliamentary experience and improving legislators’ access to information to increase their effectiveness in the organization’s activities.
The proposals were presented during talks between Sillo and the Secretary-General of the OACPS, Moussa Saleh Batraki, held at the Parliament’s Sub-Offices in Dar es Salaam.
During the meeting, Sillo emphasized the importance of implementing the Samoa Partnership Agreement based on the principles of equality, inclusiveness, and mutual benefit for all member states. He noted that closer cooperation among parliaments would strengthen the implementation of the organization’s development agenda and improve the effectiveness of its institutions.
He further reaffirmed the Tanzanian Parliament’s commitment to working closely with the OACPS to deepen strategic cooperation and support reforms aimed at enabling the organization to serve its member states more effectively.

For his part, OACPS Secretary-General Moussa Saleh Batraki said the organization’s Secretariat is implementing reforms designed to align its programmes with the priorities and needs of member states. He added that the reforms are intended to strengthen parliamentary cooperation while establishing sustainable financial mechanisms to support the organization’s activities.
Meanwhile, Tanzania’s Ambassador to Belgium and Permanent Representative to the European Union, Jestas Nyamanga, reaffirmed Tanzania’s commitment to supporting the implementation of the Samoa Partnership Agreement and other development initiatives to ensure that member states fully benefit from the economic and development opportunities offered through the OACPS.
The meeting underscored Tanzania’s commitment to working with the OACPS to strengthen parliamentary cooperation, promote sustainable development, and ensure member states maximize the opportunities available through the organization.
