NICOSIA: Tanzania’s Ambassador to Cyprus, resident in Israel, Alex Kallua, has presented his credentials to Cyprus President,  Nikos Christodoulides in Nicosia.

Ambassador  Kallua becomes the first Tanzanian envoy to do so since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

A total of 16 non-resident ambassadors from various countries also presented their credentials during the ceremony.

During the presentation, the leaders had the opportunity to hold talks where the President of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides  commended the strong ties between Tanzania and Cyprus, noting that the Cyprus foreign minister’s visit to Tanzania in July 2025 opened a new chapter in bilateral relations.

He cited the signing of two cooperation agreements on political consultations and mutual recognition of seafarers’ certificates as key milestones in strengthening relations, and reaffirmed Cyprus’ readiness to deepen cooperation across agreed sectors for mutual benefit.

The President further urged ambassadors to continue supporting Cyprus’ efforts toward lasting peace and national reunification in line with UN resolutions.

In his remarks, Ambassador Kallua pledged to immediately oversee implementation of the 2025 agreements while exploring new opportunities for cooperation in the blue economy, education, tourism, trade and investment.

He is also expected to meet the Permanent Secretary at Cyprus’ Foreign Ministry, the Chairperson of the Cyprus Ports Authority and the Director of the Africa Department to further discussions on enhancing bilateral relations.
