DAR ES SALAAM: PRESIDENT Samia Suluhu Hassan has directed the Tanzania Police Force to rebuild public trust and strengthen its relationship with citizens, the private sector and the international community.

The Head of State gave the directives during the graduation ceremony of police officers and assistant inspectors at Kurasini in Dar es Salaam today, May 28, 2026, where she told the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Camillus Wambura that the force must address growing public concerns over confidence in policing services.

Elaborating, the President stated that she recently watched a report comparing public confidence levels in police forces across Africa, where the highest-ranked country scored only 25 percent, while Tanzania recorded 12 percent in terms of citizens’ willingness to seek help from the police during times of trouble.

“These are findings we cannot ignore, IGP. We must examine where the gaps are, why citizens respond this way and what should be done to restore confidence,” she said.

Additionally, President Samia said greater public participation through community policing would be key in improving trust, noting that citizens must feel the police force is part of their daily security and a safe place to turn to in times of need.
