
LONDON: THE Former Tanzanian President, Jakaya Kikwete has participated in celebrations to mark the 50 years of the Britain Tanzania Society (BTS) in the event that brought together leaders, diplomats and development stakeholders from Tanzania and the United Kingdom.
The Former President, who has served as BTS President since November 9, 2024, succeeding the late Second Phase President Ali Hassan Mwinyi, presided over the commemorative event highlighting five decades of bilateral cooperation.

The gathering was attended by Tanzania’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Mberwa Kairuki, and the British High Commissioner to Tanzania, Marianne Young, alongside other senior government officials and development partners from both countries.
The celebrations provided an opportunity to reflect on achievements in Tanzania–UK relations over the past 50 years, particularly in trade, investment, education, health, tourism, culture and social development, while reaffirming commitment to strengthening strategic cooperation for mutual benefit in the decades ahead.
