ZANZIBAR: MEMBER of Parliament for Wawi Constituency in South Pemba, Mr Khamis Kassim Ali, has reaffirmed his commitment to improving residents’ livelihoods through an economic empowerment programme worth about 280m/-.
Speaking to journalists, Mr Ali said the initiative involves distributing working tools and equipment to entrepreneurs, garage mechanics, women and youths to improve productivity and incomes.
He said the programme fulfils a campaign pledge he made before the 2025 General Election.
“I promised to provide working tools that would help people expand their businesses and improve their livelihoods. Now I am honouring that commitment,” he said.
The MP said leaders should complement government efforts to empower citizens economically, particularly small-scale entrepreneurs.
He noted that part of the programme has already been financed from his personal resources.
To ensure equitable distribution, Wawi Constituency has been divided into three zones.

Besides the empowerment initiative, Mr Ali said he would soon inaugurate the Fidel Castro Playground, one of 14 sports grounds renovated in the constituency.
He said the projects are intended to improve living standards, create employment opportunities and contribute to sustainable community development.
